DoorDash announces $35,000 restaurant-themed MultiVersus tournament

Food delivery company DoorDash and live streaming platform Twitch have announced Battle of the Brands, a $35,000 (~£31,700) MultiVersus tournament that will feature restaurants and streamers.

The tournament will see 10 Twitch streamers, including Aydan, Nadia, FaZe Mew and Grimmmz, be paired with US-based restaurants — Chilli’s, KFC, Wendy’s and Taco Bell, among others. The event will be hosted by on-air talent, and Esports Insider Hall of Famer, Chris Puckett.

The tournament is a multi-faceted activation that not only promotes fast food brands and streamers, but will further push MultiVersus, a new fighting game published by Warner Bros.

The game has received critical acclaim since its release and was featured at this year’s Evolution Championship Series in the United States. MultiVersus features an assortment of characters from Warner franchises, including DC Comics, Scooby Doo and Adventure time.

DoorDash will provide one hundred gift cards to viewers of the tournament. Moreover, the restaurants themselves will be running special promotions during the course of the tournament on September 24th and 25th. Twitch will also gift 1000 subscriptions for fans to support their favourite streamers. The streamer who wins the tournament will receive a cash prize, as well as a year-long supply of DoorDash.

DoorDash made headlines this year by partnering with the gaming and esports company FaZe Clan. The deal was first agreed in May 2022, and was further strengthened by the launch of FaZe Subs, a new food-based business venture for FaZe Clan. The company has also signed partnerships with the NBA 2K League and the League of Legends Circuit Oceania in the past.

Katie Daire, Senior Director of Consumer Marketing at DoorDash, commented: “While we’ll have to wait to see which favourite restaurant will reign supreme, we’re certain the two-day livestream will be a can’t miss event for foodies and gamers alike with surprises around every corner.”
