Activision unveils Call of Duty Mobile World Championship 2022

Game publisher Activision has announced the return of the Call of Duty Mobile World Championship for 2022.

According to the publisher, the tournament, which is set to begin in late March, will feature the largest prize pool in the game’s history.

Activision noted in a release that the event will be open to players of all skill levels. Starting on March 31st, Activision will host in-game qualifiers each weekend. The best players will climb the ranks and receive an invitation to the grand finals in December to compete for its $1.7m (~£1.3m) prize pool.

Matt Lewis, Vice President of Mobile at Activision, commented: “Our massive, worldwide community of players continues to drive the team’s passion to deliver an epic Call of Duty: Mobile experience now and in the future. With all-new rewards and a prize pool of over $2 million dollars, everyone is invited to enjoy this year’s championships and we look forward to seeing who will be crowned victorious later this year.”

Last year’s tournament was split into regions due to the ongoing pandemic. As a result, there was no global final. Tribe Gaming was the winner of the West finals and Blacklist International won the East finals in 2021, with each team taking $300,000 (~£229,000).

Activision announced that the global finals will be taking place this December, however, the location is still unknown. Both the global finals and the regional playoffs will be streamed on YouTube.
